Legislative Update- The Right To Read Passed in the House and Senate! June 29, 2019

The Reading Equity ACT 2019

The Right to Read Act H 5887 SUB A was revised in committee. The new language is not comprehensive enough to produce outcomes. The Reading Equity ACT was made from a coalition of DDRI, RIDE, Education Administrators, Teachers, Literacy Specialists, Union Representation, and private schools like the Wheeler School.

Structured Literacy curriculum for all students in Tier 1 General Education in grades K-3, Structured Literacy Interventions for Tier 2 and 3 for students with weak phonemic and phonological awareness skills, and Structured Literacy Supports for students with Language Based Learning Disabilities (including Dyslexia). Teacher PD and Training in Structured literacy and the Science of Reading.
