Dear Collegues-
Continuing the promotion of research collaboration, Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland’s Dietrich Diabetes Research Institute (DDRI) and Case School of Medicine are pleased to present the third annual Diabetes Research Retreat, Friday, November 17, 2006, at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. This cross-institutional, cross-discipline Retreat will once again bring together investigators from the diverse Cleveland-area biomedical institutions and pool regional resources to bolster diabetes research.
Join more than 200 diabetes researchers from northeast Ohio at this exciting all-day event, focusing on “Clinical Trials and Putative Mechanisms of Disease”.
We are honored to once again welcome speakers of national renown to the Retreat. The Opening Address will be presented this year by Interim Dean of Case School of Medicine, Pamela B. Davis, MD, PhD. The Keynote Address will be delivered by David Nathan, MD, Director of the General Clinical Research Center and of the Diabetes Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Plenary speakers include:
- Robert E. Ratner, MD, President for Scientific Affairs, MedStar Research Institute, and Professor of Medicine, Georgetown University Medical School; and
- Clifton Bogardus III, MD, Chief, Phoenix Epidemiology and Clinical Research Branch, National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Phoenix, Arizona.
Coupled with Cleveland’s strength in basic science, participation and leadership in national clinical trials illustrates the broad focus of diabetes research in northeast Ohio. Cleveland’s role in clinical trials highlights the commitment to improving public health through translational research that has a direct impact on patients here and now. Retreat attendees will have the privilege of hearing from two notable researchers who have served as Primary Investigators for significant multi-center clinical trials. Saul Genuth, MD, Professor of Medicine at Case School of Medicine and Byron J. Hoogwerf, MD, staff physician at The Cleveland Clinic will focus on the ACCORD, BARI2D, DCCT/EDIC, HOPE and DREAM clinical trials.
Specific time is allotted for discussion with the authors of posters. Please refer to the Call for Poster Abstracts for more information. The deadline for Submission of Abstracts is October 27, 2006.
Please register online. The deadline for registration is November 10, 2006. Due to great interest, we encourage you to register early.
