To fulfill its commitment to advance research in diabetes, DAGC’s Dietrich Diabetes Research Institute offered challenge grants in diabetes research to encourage collaboration among investigators from northeast Ohio institutions.
In 2007, DDRI awarded 3 collaborative grants of $46,000 per project. Grants were two-year awards, with the second year funding subject to review of appropriate progress.
Matching funds of $23,000 per project from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, University Hospitals Case Medical Center, MetroHealth Medical Center, and Cleveland Clinic were pledged for this grant award to make the total $69,000 per project per year.
Consistent with the mission of DDRI, these grant awards were intended to stimulate cooperative research among investigators in different institutions, disciplines, and departments with a focus on a clearly identified diabetes-related research project.
Formal award announcements were made at the annual Diabetes Research Retreat with presentations by the awardees.
